The German Lucas Holstenius (1596-1661) studied in Leyden before travelling through Italy with P. Cluverius. He rediscovered the exact location of Pompeji. Th. Ryckius (1640-90), professor of history in Leyden, received his notes and corrections to Stephanus de Byzance's geographical lexicon De Urbibus and published them together with fragments of texts by Scymnus de Chio (Greek geographer). - Schweiger I, 301.
