Abraham Titsingh (bapt. 1684-1776), town surgeon and surgeon to the Admiralty at Amsterdam. Titsingh published several books and brochures of which his 'Cypria' is a very extensive history of syphilis. It contains i.a. numerous critical comments on Boerhaave, Tschirnhaus, Halley, Vieussens, Becher. First edition. - Coll. Friedrich, 227; Banga, 785-805; BMN 293; Lindeboom, 1986-8; NNBW III, 1240-1; Hirsch V, 689; Waller, 9616. NCC mentions only 2 copies in Amsterdam (incomplete) and Utrecht; the STCN also mentions a 3rd copy in London. - With the bookplate of Cornelis Hendrik à Roy (v.d. Aa 16, 517).
