One of the most celebrated works on Dutch 18th c. hydraulic engineering. With very detailed and magnificent plates of sluices, swing-bridges, dikes, weirs, etc., the very elements of existence in Holland. Jan Schenck was the engraver of this work, which may also be the most accurate and the most sumptuously illustrated book of its type in Holland in the 18th century - the technical aspects of the rendering was just superb. Little is known about the author who v.d. Aa III, p. 396 calls a "bekwaam bouwkundige, die in het midden der XVIIIde eeuw leefde". - Bierens de Haan, 4836 & 4837.€ 600
