The first quarto-edition of this important 18th-century military work on the development of infantry-tactics. The work was first published only a year earlier in 1748, also in Paris. Jacques de Chastenet de Puységur (1655-1743), son of the well-known military author and general, entered the military service in 1677. He distinguished himself during the French campaign in Spain and the Low Countries under Kings Louis XIV and XV. His monumental work on military strategy and tactics was published five years after his death by his son, Armand Marie Jacques de Chastenet de Puységur (1751-1825). - Sloos, 03056; Cf.
