The female writer of "De Peerle" is one of the most important personalities in the second hey-days of the female mystic movement in the Netherlands in the beginning of the 16th century, where Hadewijch and Beatrijs van Tienen (Nazareth) were characteristic of the first period in the 13th century. For a long time the author was unknown, and it was not sure if she even belonged to 'the Oisterwijkse Kring'. In several articles in "Ons Geestelijk Erf" P.J. Begheyn came to the conclusion that the author must be Reinalda van Eymeren (1463-1540). She was a canoness in the 'St.-Agnietconvent' of Arnhem, a foundation of Modern Devotion that had an elaborate library and was known for the high spiritual and intellectual level of the inhabitants. - BCNI, 8133; Foppens II, p. 905-6. - With bookplate of 'Ruusbroec Genootschap'.
