Johannes van Zyl, introduced to us as 'millmaker of Lexmond' on the title-page, describes the typical Dutch craft of millmaking in clear admiration for the mathematical precision that is essential in his profession. As plate 49 is aptly named it is the 'beschrijving en vertoning van een zeer fraay en speculatif werkje'. He found an equally skilled and precise engraver in Jan Schenk. The plates show both the technical, the mathemical and the architectural detailing. Bierens de Haan, 5482 (this (2nd) edition). - Sold w.a.f., not subject to return.€ 400
