PHOTOGRAPHS -- MAASSLUIS - COLTOF -- PHOTO ALBUM containing 22 photographs by Levie or Abraham Coltof. N.d., 1910's-1920's (after 1911). All on thick cardboard mounts. 84 x 108 mm (20x) and 85 x 58 mm (2x). Sm-8°-obl. Ocl. w. dec. front side.
Nice album with small intimate photographs by the Jewish photographer Levie Coltof (1861-1928), or perhaps his son Abraham (1886-1942). Levie Coltof came to Maassluis in 1911, where he first worked as a teacher of religion and later started a business in photography. Levie Coltof was the father of Abraham Coltof, who was also a photographer by profession. Abraham died in WW II in a concentration camp. Depicted are men at work (i.a. coopers) and ships in the harbour of Maassluis, a shipyard, street scenes, and private (?) photographs and also 3 photographs on which the shop sign of Levie Coltof is visible: 'Weg. F53 Fotografie L. Coltof & Co.' Not many Coltof photographs seem to be in public possession.€ 300
