BÉCHARD, (É.) & A. PALMIERI. L'Égypte et la Nubie. Grand album monumental, historique, architectural. Paris, Quinsac (&) Chaix, 1887. 23 and 8 pp. W. 150 fine phototype photogr. by Émile Bechard. Lge-fol. Loose as issued in the ohcl. portfol. w. lithogr. front side, w. ties. (Spine a bit dam., 4 ties in need of repair, small splits to plates in places, margins a bit dust stained in places, plates a bit age-toned (no foxing!), but in very good condition considering the weight and size of the book).

Émile Béchard (1844-?) was a Cairo-based Orientalist and the official photographer of the Egyptian Museum in partnership with another prominent French photographer, Hippolyte Délié (his brother?) with whom he operated a photographic studio at the Azbakiya gardens. Together the two photographers published an album of the Bulaq Museum. On his return to France, Béchard participated in the Exposition Universelle de Paris of 1878 where he obtained a Médaille d’Or for his work. The photographs in this 'Grand album' i.a. display naturally the Egyptian monuments, but also beautiful street scenes in Cairo and surroundings emphasizing the architectural quality of the buildings.
