BIBLIA NEERLANDICA -- BIBLIA: Dat is, De gantsche H. Schrifture, vervattende alle de Canonijcke Boecken des Ouden en des Nieuwen Testaments (and) Psalmen. Dordr., P. Keur, 1720-23. 3 parts in 1 vol. 8°. Cont. black cf. w. elaborately tooled silver clasps and catches, silver cornerpieces on each side, large silver centrepiece on both sides, and a silver chain attached to catches on the upper end of each side, a.e.g. (Small part of front cover restored, endleaves/paste downs fail, outer margin psalms partly a bit defected/brittle, prelims a bit soiled/stained, but exterior in excellent condition).
Nice and well preserved example of an 18th c. (Frisian?) 'klederdrachtbijbel'; the chain being used to carry the bible around. With the name of the owner inscribed on the inside of the clasps: 'Sjoukien Haitses', dated 1732, who might well be Sjoukje Haitses, baptized 1 November 1716 at Bergum (Friesland), daughter of Haitse Douwes and Jetske Lammers.€ 3000
