Ad 1: The Battle of Doggersbank took place 5 Aug. 1781: Rear admiral J.A. Zoutman (1724-93) withstood an English attack. The war fleet was so damaged, that Zoutman could not continue the trip. Immediately after this pyrrhic victory, J. Allart announced the 'Zeetriumph', in which the naval battle is cheered exuberantly. In 1783 the patriots took revenge with the 'Nodige bijlagen'. - Arpots 243 (w. annot. that the portraits were issued separately after the publication of the work); Cat. Bibl. Mij Ned.
