ETHIOPIC PAINTING. 2nd h. 20th c. Consisting of 72 panels illustrating legends from the Kebra Nagast. 89,5 x 195 cm. Cloth on a wooden frame.

The Kebra Nagast is a 14th-century account, written in Ge'ez, of how the Queen of Sheba (Queen Makeda of Ethiopia) met King Solomon and about how the Ark of the Covenant came to Ethiopia with Menelik I (Menyelek). The sequence consists of six rows of 12 panels in colour with legends on top in Ethiopic. In very good condition. List of episodes available upon request.
