The most scholarly 18th century edition, edited by Jean le Clerc. The Pervigilium Veneris is an anonymous poem of 93 trochaic verses, written some time between the 2nd and 5th centuries A.D. The poem combines material for a hymn to Venus, with a description of Spring and an explanation of why the festival (set in Sicily) is appropriate at the time. - Schweiger II, 719.
