(VUURIG, Bartholomeus). Den splinternieuwen Post, rijdende van het Paradijs op Utrecht. 1. Stuk. In het Paradijs, bij G.T. Hofsomber en Zn. Boekverkopers, 1790. Manuscript on laid paper. (22) lvs. W. front. drawing on vellum of the author (on horseback) in colour. 4°. Cont. marbled brds.
Curious, evidently humorous text in which many fictitious names occur, but also existing topographical names (Harderwijk, Putten, Voorthuizen, Rosendaal near Breda, Utrecht). Most probably conceived in circles of students at the University of Harderwijk. Because of the date of publication - 1790 - and the ridiculing of the nobility it is tempting to suspect some kind of parody/satire on local (national?) politics (by Patriots?), but we could not find a proper lead. The text is preceded by a dedication to 'Hooggeachte Heer en Mejuffers' and mentions a 'Jonkvrouwe Didrika gouvernante van Muijlen en Quastenburg (?)'. Two ministers who really existed are mentioned in the text: Wilhelmus Cotius Irhoven and Johannes Noordink.€ 300
