'Case histories' of illnesses caused by spider bites in the district of Apulia from 1596 to 1613, recorded by Epiphanius Ferdinandus (1569-1638), Italian doctor and philospher, born of Misagne. Tarantism was/is a form of hysteric behaviour, popularly believed to result from the bite of the wolf spider. Dancing was believed (i.a. by Ferdinandus) by many to be a good treatment when bitten, hence the name of the folk dance 'tarantella'. First and only edition. Rare.
