Collection of charters fromn the 13th to the 16th c., very important for the early history of Leiden, presented here in different 'caractères de civilité'. The city of Leiden felt the need to re-publish the oldest documents which eventually led to this book. It is the most famous production of Jan van Hout's city printing press at the town hall of Leyden and of great rarity. Printed in 100 copies only. The 'Civilité' types used are based on the lettre courante used in France in the 16th c., first cut by the French printer & typefounder Robert Granjon in 1557. - Good copy w. ample margins. From the library of Th.J. Verrijn Stuart and w. his bookplate. Nijhoff/v. Hattum 143 ("(…) een der fraaist gedrukte boeken uit het begin der zeventiende eeuw."); Carter & Vervliet 293; Haitsma Mulier/v.d. Lem 243; NNBW II, 608-612.
