The Battle of Roncevaux Pass in 778 saw a large force of Basques ambush a part of Charlemagne's army in Roncevaux Pass. Among those killed in the battle was a relatively obscure Frankish commander, Roland, whose death elevated him and the paladins, the foremost warriors of Charlemagne's court, into legend, becoming the quintessential role model for knights and also greatly influencing the code of chivalry in the Middle Ages. - No other copy found by us, but a ticket tipped in on the upper pastedown states that only 1 copy is known to exist in the Collection of Prince d'Arenberg (the whereabouts of which is not known today). - Not in Belgica Typogr.; not in Machiels, etc.
