(DESFORGES). Memoires anecdotes pour servir à l'histoire du M. Duliz, fameux juif portugais à la Haye. Et la suite de ses avantures, après la catastrophe de celle de Mademoiselle Pelissier, actrice de l'Opera de Paris. - (L. De BOISSY). Le triomphe de l'interêt comedie. Lond., S. Harding (= The Netherlands?), 1739. (2), 188 pp. W. engr. front. and ti-vign. 12°. Old marbled wrps., uncut. (A few foxing spots).

Rare first edition of a French comical work by the comedian Desforges of whom not much is known. It tells the story of a rich jew, originally from England, M. Duliz, who lives now in Holland. His father married him off to a rich girl with whom he is not satisfied. And that is why he courts an actress from the opera; a source for many hilarious scenes. The story is followed by a comedy by Louis de Boissy (1694-1758), which was first published in the Hague in 1734. NUC lists 3 different editions of 1739 all printed in London by Samuel Harding. Two of those editions have a fals imprint and were really published in France and Holland. Our work is probably the Dutch edition (only 2 copies in NUC). - Barbier III, 181; cf. Cioranescu 23406 and 12358.I.
