ZAANSTREEK -- DEKKER, JAN ADRIAANSZ. 'Voordrachten gehouden door J. Dekker Azn. in vergaderingen v/d Arbeidersvereening Help U Zelven te Zaandam, Vereeninging tot Heil van 't volk te Zwolle, Vereeninging voor Volksbelang te Goes in de jaren 1869, 1870, 1871.' (1869-71). Manuscript on 75 lvs. 4°. Old brds. (Loosening).

Jan Adriaanszoon Dekker (Zaandam, 1834 - Zaandijk, 1905), a social liberal, by profession dealer in mainly legumes, was elected in the local council of Koog aan de Zaan in 1891 on behalf of the liberal electoral association 'Kiesrecht is Kiesplicht', simultaneously with SDAP-candidate Paul Leguit. But not earlier than 1897 the progressives got a council majority, and Dekker became alderman (portfolio Public Works) and deputy mayor. The workers union 'Help U Zelven' was a cooperative that was founded in Zaandam in 1865 following the example of the 'Pioneers of Rochdale'.
